How Do I Change My DNS or Name Servers? Print

  • 0

In order for people to find your website, you will need to configure DNS and set name servers, You have to use HostLayer's name servers,
you would need to configure them so your domain works with your HostLayer web hosting account.

PLEASE NOTE: When changing name servers at the registrar, there will be 24-48 hours of DNS propagation time, where your website and email may not be available.

Option 1: Use HostLayer Name Servers (preferred)

The recommended route for most customers is to use HostLayer's name servers since they are automatically configured to work with HostLayer web hosting accounts.

Step 1: Find Out Name Servers for Your Hosting Account

The first step would be to find out which name servers you should use for your HostLayer hosting account.  This varies by server and type of hosting.  For instructions on how to find out your name servers, please read the article:

Step 2: Changing Name Servers

If you purchased your domain from HostLayer, then you can manage it online.

If you did NOT purchase your domain from us, we are not able to change the name servers because we don't control the domain. Please contact the place where you bought the domain and ask how to make the name server updates. (Most domain registrars have a tool so you can do this yourself.)

You will remove your registrar's current name servers and replace them with the HostLayer name servers from your welcome email.
